Old franchises are back in vogue again, and the pendulum has finally come around for Scary Movie. We learned just before Halloween that Scary Movie would be rising from the dead—and now there’s a release date. Miramax Films’ horror-comedy series is set to return with a brand new movie on June 12, 2026.
Scary Movie 6 sees Wayans Brothers Marlon, Keenan Ivory, and Shawn return to the series for the first time since their tumultuous departure post-Scary Movie 2. Where the first two movies parodied famous slasher flicks like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, the Wayans-less sequels pivoted to the broader horror genre, from the Ring and Grudge films to Paranormal Activity. While none of them were exactly critical darlings, nearly all of them made a lot of money. They were also such a part of pop culture, they led to other (and arguably lesser) parody movies flooding theaters in the late 2000s, like Meet the Spartans, Superhero Movie, and Vampires Suck.
The first four Scary Movie films are fondly remembered by fans and helped introduce audiences to the Wayans and co-leads Anna Faris and Regina Hall. Right now, it’s unclear if Faris and Hall are returning alongside the Wayans, ditto which movies they’ll be riffing on this time around. But at least we know some laughs are on the horizon, and all we gotta do is survive until June 12, 2026 so we can laugh our asses off at whatever the Wayans and company have cooked up.
